Proposition 13 /ˌprɒpəˈzɪʃən $ ˌprɑː- ˌθɜːˈtiːn◂ǁˌθɜːr-/ (also Prop 13 informal)
a law made in California in 1978 that reduced taxes on property. It was voted on directly by the people of California instead of being passed by California’s state government. It encouraged voters in other US states to vote for similar laws, and was the first of many tax cuts introduced by the state and national governments in the 1980s.
