model, who has been on the cover of more than 600 magazines. She has also acted and been a television
presenter. She is known for having a
mole (=dark mark on the skin) above her lip.

II. Crawford, Joan /dʒəʊn/
(1904–77) one of America's most famous film actresses, who usually appeared as characters who were very brave and determined, but often also very unhappy. Her films include
Mildred Pierce (1945) and
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962). Her daughter wrote a book about her, called
Mommie Dearest, that criticized her strongly.
