George VI, King /ˌdʒɔːdʒ ðə ˈsɪksθ $ ˌdʒɔːrdʒ-/
(1895–1952) the British king from 1936 until his death, and the father of Queen Elizabeth II. During World War II, he and his wife Elizabeth (who was called the Queen Mother) were popular in the UK because they continued to live in London when it was being bombed, and they accepted the same food restrictions as ordinary people.
