ˈGong Show, The
a humorous US television programme that was popular during the 1970s. People who performed on The Gong Show tried to entertain the judges by telling jokes, dancing, singing etc, but their performances were usually very bad, and few of them were able to do their whole performance before one of the judges hit a gong, to show that the performer should stop.
