Po‧lo‧ni‧us /pəˈləʊniəs/
an old man who is the father of Ophelia and Laertes in the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Hamlet accidentally kills Polonius when Polonius is hiding behind the ‘arras’ (=a sort of thick curtain).
