Stewart, James
(1908–97) a very popular US film actor, known for his soft, slow way of speaking and for often playing very ordinary, honest characters. His many films include Mr Smith Goes to Washington (1939) and It's a Wonderful Life (1946), and he also acted in several films by the director Alfred Hitchcock, including Rear Window.
