Su‧har‧to, T. N. J. /suːˈhɑːtəʊ $ -ɑːr-/
(1921–2008) the President of Indonesia from 1966 to 1998. In the late 1990s, as Indonesia experienced serious economic problems, Suharto became unpopular and there were many public protests against his government. In the end, he agreed to give up his position as President.
