trademark a type of
rifle (=a long gun) made by a US company and known in the UK for being used by the
IRA, although ArmaLite did not supply the IRA. Members of the IRA sometimes used to say that their method of achieving their aims was ‘the ArmaLite and the ballot box’, meaning a combination of violent methods and normal political methods.
