At‧a‧türk, Ke‧mal /ˈætətɜːk $ -tɜːrk, keˈmɑːl/
(1881–1938) a Turkish politician and army officer who established the modern state of Turkey and became its first President in 1923. He made many changes to make Turkey a more western country, for example by giving women the vote and changing the writing system so that it used the Roman alphabet instead of Arabic letters.
