Bis‧marck, Ot‧to von /ˈbɪzmɑːk $ -mɑːrk, ˈɒtəʊ vɒn $ ˈɑːtəʊ vɑːn/
(1815–98) a German politician who was mainly responsible for joining all the separate German states together to form one country, and who then became chancellor of Germany. He was known as the ‘Iron Chancellor’.
