Blun‧kett, David /ˈblʌŋkət, ˈblʌŋkɪt/
(1947–) a British politician in the Labour Party who became Home Secretary
(=the government minister in charge of domestic matters relating to this country) in 2001. He was the first blind person to be a member of the Cabinet
(=the committee containing the prime minister and the most senior ministers of the government) in the UK. In 2004 he
resigned from his job as Home Secretary after it was reported that he had used his influence to help his lover's
nanny to get a
visa.
