Deˌpartment of Transporˈtation, the (abbreviation DOT)
a US government department that deals with transport in the US, for example by making laws about road vehicles and planes, and by building and repairing roads. Its full name is the United States Department of Transportation. In the UK there is a similar department called the Department for Transport.
