Any of various oleoresins obtained from tropical trees of the family Burseraceae and used in varnishes and ointments; esp. (more fully American elemi) that from the gumbo-limbo tree, Bursera simaruba, and (more fully Manila elemi) that from Canarium luzanicum of the Philippines. Also more fully gum elemi.
