a country in northeast Europe between Russia and Sweden. It is a member of the EU. Population: 5,238,460 (2007). Capital: Helsinki. People in the UK connect Finland with saunas and with the midnight sun (=when the sun can be seen at midnight in the middle of summer). People from Finland are called Finns.
