A. noun.
1. A person who gets or obtains something, esp. wealth; a person who or (now only) an animal which begets offspring. Also with adverbs, getter-in, getter-up, etc., a person who gets in, up, etc. See also GO-GETTER. LME.

2. spec. A coal-miner who extracts the coal after a seam has been undercut. M19.

3. A substance used to remove residual gas from an evacuated vessel. E20.
b. verb trans. Remove (gas) by means of a getter; evacuate (a vessel) by means of a getter. E20.
