Guer‧ni‧ca /ˈɡɜːnɪkə $ ˈɡweər-/
a town in the Basque area of northern Spain, which was destroyed by bombs dropped by German aircraft in 1937, during the Spanish
civil war. It is known especially for the picture called ‘Guernica’ painted by Pablo
Picasso, which shows the destruction of the town.
