A large African antelope, Alcelaphus buselaphus, with a long head, a sloping back, and hooked horns, of which there are several races, including the kongoni (now extinct), the bubal, and the tora. Also, any of several related antelopes, esp. Sigmoceros lichtensteinii and members of the genus Damaliscus (as the hirola and the tsessebi).
