Lee Kuan Yew /ˌliː kwɑːn ˈjuː/
(1923–) a Singaporean politician who was Prime Minister from 1959 to 1990. Under Lee, Singapore became a country with a very successful economy and a strong welfare state. He encouraged traditional rules of behaviour through strict punishments.
