Lloyd’s /lɔɪdz/ (
also ˌLloyd’s of ˈLondon)
an organization based in London, which provides all types of insurance, including insurance for ships and aircraft. People with a lot of money can become members of Lloyd’s (who are called ‘names’), and can make more money by sharing in its profits. But they can also lose a lot of money if Lloyd’s loses money.
