Mailer, Norman (1923–2007) a US writer and
journalist, known for dealing with social and political subjects and for criticizing US society. His books often contain a lot of sex and violence, and many of them are based on real events. They include
The Naked and the Dead (1948) and
An American Dream. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1969 for
The Armies of the Night, and in 1980 for
The Executioner's Song.
