Mc‧Kin‧ley, William
(1843–1901) a US politician in the Republican Party who was President from 1897 to 1901. He greatly increased tariffs (=taxes on goods coming into the country) so that US companies would become stronger and more successful. He was shot and killed in Buffalo, New York.
