Mer·kel, An·ge·la /ˈmeəkəl, ˈæŋɡelə $ ˈmer-/
(1954-) a German politician who is a member of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) and who became the first woman Chancellor of REUNITED Germany in November 2005. She became the leader of a coalition government made up of the CDU, the CSU (Christian Social Union), and the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany).
