Mit‧ter‧rand, Fran‧çois /ˈmiːtərɒŋ $ ˌmiːteˈrɑːn, ˈfrɒnswɑː $ frɑːnˈswɑː/
(1916–96) a French socialist politician who was active in French politics for 50 years and was President of France from 1981 to 1995. He was also known for having fought in the French resistance during World War II.
