Mon‧kees, The /ˈmʌnkiːz/
a US
pop group formed in 1966 who also made a successful television series which was also called
The Monkees. They separated in 1969. This was the first time that a record company had deliberately chosen several musicians who had not worked together before, and put them together to form a group.
