1. a character in humorous cartoon films who is a pink panther (=a large wild animal of the cat family). The music from the cartoon, the ‘Pink Panther theme’, is very well known.

2. a valuable jewel which is stolen in a series of humorous films about a French police officer called Inspector Clouseau. The first of these films is called The Pink Panther, and the cartoon character first appeared at the beginning of this film, as the film’s titles were being shown.
