Stat‧en Is‧land /ˈstætn ˌaɪlənd/
an island in the US which is the smallest of the five boroughs of New York City. A boat called the Staten Island ferry takes passengers between Manhattan and Staten Island. Many people whose family origins are Italian or Irish live there.
