Ste‧phen‧son, George /ˈstiːvənsən/
(1781–1848) a British engineer who is generally considered to have developed the first steam-powered railway engine. He also built the first public railway to carry passengers in 1825 (the Stockton and Darlington Railway in northern England), and he is known especially for his steam train The Rocket.
