Tyne‧side /ˈtaɪnsaɪd/
an area in northeast England on the banks of the River Tyne from Newcastle to the east coast. Tyneside formerly had a lot of industry, including shipbuilding and coal mining, and much of this closed down in the 1970s and 1980s, leaving many people without work.
