War‧hol, An‧dy /ˈwɔːhəʊl $ ˈwɔːr-, ˈændi/
(1926–87) a US artist who had an important influence on modern art and music, especially in the 1960s. He is known for his pictures in the
pop art style, which were of ordinary objects such as the
Campbell's Soup Can, or of famous people such as Marilyn
Monroe. He also made films such as
The Chelsea Girls (1966) and
Trash (1970). His films, which usually dealt with sex and drugs, did not try to tell stories and the actors often invented their words as they spoke.
