Worms (wûrmz, vôrms)
A city of southwest Germany on the Rhine River north-northwest of Mannheim. Originally a Celtic settlement, it was the site of the Diet of Worms (1521) in which Martin Luther refused to recant his beliefs and was outlawed by the Roman Catholic Church. It is an industrial city. Population: 72,610.
