I. Fon‧da, Henry /ˈfɒndə $ ˈfɑːn-/
(1905–82) a US film actor known especially for appearing as characters who have strong moral beliefs and a strong sense of honour. His films include
The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and
Twelve Angry Men (1957). He was the father of Jane
Fonda and Peter Fonda.

II. Fonda, Jane (1937–) a US film actress, daughter of Henry Fonda, known for being sexually attractive and for her strong
left-wing views. She became known as ‘Hanoi Jane’ for protesting against US support of South Vietnam in the Vietnam War (Hanoi was the capital of North Vietnam). In the 1980s she made an extremely popular exercise
video, called ‘Jane Fonda’s Workout’, which gave instructions on how to do
aerobics. Her films include
Barbarella (1968),
Julia (1977), and
The China Syndrome (1980). She won Oscars for the films
Klute (1971) and
Coming Home (1978).
