II. Gor‧don, General Charles /ˈɡɔːdn $ ˈɡɔːr-/
(1833–85) a British military leader who fought in the
Crimean War and then in China. He is best known for leading the British forces in the
siege of
Khartoum, in Sudan, where he was killed by the enemy.
